Brewster Central Schools believes that one of the most important ways in which we can help our children perform better in their classrooms is to provide them with the nutrition necessary for the healthy growth of their minds and bodies. Therefore, we provide breakfast and/or lunch in our schools every day.

Free Meals for all Students

Students will continue to receive free meals during the 2025-2026 school year, thanks to funding included in New York’s FY 2026 budget signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul.

Rooted in Learning Grant

The Rooted in Learning: Growing Healthy Futures with Farm-to-School Education grant's goal is to cultivate deeper, more intentional connections between the Cafeteria, Classroom, and Community in support of farm-to-school initiatives. This grant is a partnership with Harvest NY and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County.

Cornell Cooperative Extension assists schools with implementing and expanding farm-to-school programming, incorporating lessons on food systems and local agriculture, often utilizing materials from the NY Agriculture in the Classroom program.

Among the benefits of farm to school programming are:

Improved student health and nutrition
Increased student awareness of food systems, gardening, and where food comes from.
Economic benefits for New York's farmers and agricultural producers.

Dietary Guidelines

Brewster Central School District proudly participates in the National School Lunch Program. The United States Department of Agriculture has established new dietary guidelines that moderate calories while increasing whole grains, fruits, and vegetables and reducing sodium levels.

Breakfast includes:

2 servings of whole grains, (cereal, bagels, muffins, breakfast bars, cereal bars)
1 cup fresh, canned or frozen fruit (apple, orange, banana, peaches, applesauce, or strawberries)
8 fluid ounces of milk (1 % or Fat-Free)

Lunch includes:

2 oz. of meat/meat alternative
1 cup fruit serving
¾ cup Vegetable serving (1 cup High School)
2 servings of whole grains
8 fluid ounces of milk (1% or Fat-Free)

Students must select a minimum of three items and one MUST be a fruit or vegetable serving to be considered a complete meal.

Snacks, extra portions, and secondary beverages are available for purchase.

Effective August 1, 2025 - MySchoolBucks program fee that parents and guardians pay at checkout is $3.50 for all cafeteria credit/debit card prepayments. The fee for electronic check payments is $2.75 per transaction.
